This is what we believe sets Tree Love apart from others as we do not prune trees to make them “look good”, we prune trees to make them “feel good”. We use our understanding of species characteristics, location, biomechanics, and the tree’s vigor and vitality to decide how to prune them. Pruning is one the most “duh” ways to care for your trees. By selectively pruning specific branches, a tree’s structure can be improved, hazards mitigated and aesthetics increased. Pruning dead and/or diseased branches can also help prevent some of the various types of wood decay fungi from gaining more ground and causing more decay.
Noninvasive or Traditional Cabling, Bracing, and Propping are various methods of supporting weak portions of a tree. Many trees such as Birches and Maples can have very poor branch structures such as codominant stems, included bark, or poor angles of branch attachment. Proper pruning should be the first action of mitigation when trying to reduce the chances of failure and prolong the life of a tree, but when proper pruning is not enough, Supplemental tree support systems are recommended. Tree Support Systems do not prevent a tree from failing but help to decrease the chances of failure. Tree support systems require periodic inspections at intervals specified by your arborist.
Unfortunately, some trees need to be removed due to death, occupying an area of future building plans, or because they have a structural weakness that can not be corrected. Here at Tree Love, we try at all costs to preserve and retain trees. It’s what we are all about, but when removal is the only option, we are unfortunately very talented at being arboricultural undertakers.
Nothing like the smell of healthy soil in the morning….. We geek out on soil and have numerous ways to change various volumes into a more forest-floor-like state. We are talking solid organic amendments that you can hold in your hands, pneumatic excavating, and restructuring. We take into account bulk density, texture, structure, Burst CO2, pH, CEC, and many other acronyms.
Sound like a joke right? Many high-value trees around the world get these systems installed to reduce the likelihood of an intercepted strike. Some famous examples? The Creek Council Oak, which pretty much started Tulsa, as well as various high-value trees located within the Gathering Place. TLPS are constructed and operate just like the systems required by code to be installed on various buildings and towers. We are one of the only companies in Northern Oklahoma properly installing, maintaining, and testing them, we also assist and give our mark of approval to other companies statewide.
We can implement many methods of protection to greatly reduce the chances of construction damages, but unfortunately, there are a lot fewer options for treatment after damages occur. Prevention is always better than treatment, so if you are going to install a pool, hardscaping, or a new addition to your house, it is always best to give us a call so we can figure out how to keep your trees sweating your cashed in 401k adventures.
If you ask 3 different arborists what is wrong with your tree you might very well get 3 different answers. The reason is that many arborists have a limited understanding of tree-related problems, and also many biotic and abiotic problems look alike! You can’t ask a tree what hurts, or when did the pain start? Sometimes the only way to figure out what is making your tree look so gloomy is by taking its blood work to the lab. Soil, foliage, and water are your tree’s blood work and diet, which can be tested!
Ask any local tree service, park director, or higher-up in forest service, Tree Love is widely known as Northern Oklahoma’s tree nerds, and we are proud of it. Have a question stumping the rest? Let our Board Certified Master Arborist (MW-5744B) on staff go ol’ bloodhound on your tree, and get you the answers!
